Today is my day!

Just a nice way to start a day, a week and the Month of April :) Congratulations everyone for completing yet another day, week, month! Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it. ~Groucho Marx

One-of-a-kind has an inner revelation:

Being a 'social activist', I imagined that the sources of all oppression and negativity were external--'out there', in the 'world beyond'--in classes, castes, structures and ideologies that I identified as 'oppressive'--Brahmins and Banias, Jews and Americans and their Saudi-Wahhabi stooges, Feudalism, Communalism, Capitalism, Casteism, Zionism, Brahminism, Religious Fundamentalism, Imperialism and so on. If these were successfully combatted, I was led to believe, all the problems of the world would be set straight.

Directing my energies and anger onto these external forces, I saw no need at all to introspect and recognize, leave alone solve, my own inner negativities, which I left completely ignored and unaddressed all these many years. It was truly a very convenient way of running away from my own inner dilemmas, insecurities and incompleteness.

One very common emotion that this breed (of bleeding heart Left Libs) consciously expressed was that of outrage. Whether in writing or in front of TV cameras, they were permanently outraged by the conditions of people and the state-of-play. The causes swung between corruption, conflicts, human rights, public health and rape, but their practised expression of outrage remained the same. And language – a hybrid of wordplay, controlled aggression and convenience of easy facts – was the main tool.

Shoma’s problem is her journalism of outrage.
